Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC/ASD)

ASD Teacher Jobs London | Autism Teaching Opportunities

ASC (Autistic Spectrum Conditions) are not caused by a person’s upbringing, their social circumstances and is not the fault of the individual with the condition. At present, there is no ‘cure’ for autism. However, as our specialist ASD teachers know, there are a range of methods of enabling learning and development that can help autistic students to reach their potential.

Understanding of autism

Key Skills Education works with several special schools and resource bases across London,  catering for children and young people on the autistic spectrum. We always have ASD teacher jobs and  teaching assistant vacancies available and are we are always keen to speak to teachers with a good understanding of autism, whether this has been acquired in a professional or personal capacity.

If you are an SEN teacher looking for jobs in London, have experience with autistic pupils and would like to work as an ASD Teacher, please see our quick register section or check out our ASD teaching jobs in our current vacancies

What is Autism?

Autism is a spectrum of psychological conditions characterized by widespread abnormalities of social interactions and communication, as well as severely restricted interests and highly repetitive behavior. The word ‘spectrum’ is used because, while all people with autism share three main areas of difficulty (see below), their condition will affect them in very different ways. Some are able to live relatively ‘everyday’ lives; others will require a lifetime of specialist support.

The three forms of ASD are:

– Autism

– Aspergers syndrome

– Pervasive Development Disorder (PDD)

The core of autism spectrum disorders

Autism forms the core of the autism spectrum disorders. It is a lifelong disability where in particular, understanding and relating to other people and taking part in everyday family and social life may be more difficult. Other people appear to know how to communicate and interact with each other, which some people with autism find difficult to understand.

Autism awareness

It can be hard to create awareness of autism as people with the condition do not appear to be disabled. The characteristics of autism vary from one person to another. As well as the three main areas of difficulty, people with autism may have sensory sensitivity, special interests, learning disabilities and a love for routines

Asperger Syndrome

Asperger syndrome or Asperger’s syndrome is closest to autism in signs and likely causes. It differs from other autistic conditions by its relative preservation of linguistic and cognitive development.
