About the Nursery Teaching Assistant Job Role
Working within the school’s nursery, you will support children through play-based learning, help create a positive and engaging learning environment, and assist the class teacher with daily classroom activities.
The role will also include supporting some children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), both within the classroom and through small group or 1:1 activities.
This is a varied position where no two days are the same, making it ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships with young children and helping them reach their full potential.

Teaching Assistant Job Responsibilities
- Support children within the nursery classroom throughout the school day.
- Assist with play-based learning activities and Early Years development.
- Help children develop their communication, social and emotional skills.
- Support children with SEN through targeted interventions and classroom activities.
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to meet individual learning needs.
- Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
- Assist with observations and contribute to children’s progress.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience working with young children in a nursery, school or childcare setting.
- A caring, patient and nurturing approach.
- An interest in supporting children with Special Educational Needs.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- A relevant Early Years or childcare qualification is desirable but not essential.
