Teaching Assistant – Specialist ARP (Autism)

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Barking is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their specialist Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP), supporting children with autism in Early Years and Key Stage 1.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a well-supported, specialist environment within a mainstream setting, helping pupils with complex needs to access learning, develop communication skills, and thrive both socially and emotionally.
Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism and complex needs
- Support communication and interaction using appropriate strategies (e.g. visual supports, routines)
- Assist with the delivery of tailored learning activities set by the class teacher and SEN team
- Help manage behaviour positively and consistently in line with the school’s approach
- Support pupils with personal care where required
- Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals
Requirements:
- Experience supporting children with autism and/or complex needs
- Ideally experience within a special school or ARP setting
- Strong mainstream SEN experience (particularly 1:1 support) will also be considered
- Calm, patient, and nurturing approach
- Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Ability to build strong relationships with pupils and staff
