Learning Support Assistant Job in Lambeth secondary school

A welcoming and inclusive secondary school in South London is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their SEND team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students with a range of additional needs, helping them access learning, build confidence and develop greater independence.

The successful candidate will support students both within the classroom and through small group or one-to-one interventions. The role also includes providing personal and intimate care support for a student who uses a wheelchair, with full training and ongoing support provided by the school.

The Learning Support Assistant Job Role

  • Supporting students with SEND within mainstream classroom settings
  • Working with students with Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language Needs, Dyslexia and SEMH needs
  • Delivering one-to-one and small group support
  • Encouraging independence, resilience and positive engagement in learning
  • Assisting students during lessons, breaktimes and school activities
  • Working closely with teachers, the SENDCo and external professionals
  • Supporting a wheelchair user with personal care, toileting and mobility needs
  • Following individual care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures
  • Promoting inclusion and ensuring all students can participate fully in school life

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Experience supporting students with SEND in a school or similar setting
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A commitment to inclusive education and high expectations for all learners
  • Comfortable providing personal care support or willing to undertake training
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities

Desirable Learning Support Experience

  • Supporting students with EHCPs
  • Delivering interventions
  • Experience supporting students with physical disabilities
  • Moving and Handling, First Aid or Medical Needs training
  • Teaching Assistant or Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification
