SEN Teaching Assistant | SEMH | Immediate Start
A friendly and inclusive primary school in Hornchurch is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child in Year 1 with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
This is a full-time, long-term role within a supportive mainstream primary school environment, ideal for an experienced Teaching Assistant or Behaviour Mentor passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
The Role
- 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant supporting a child in Year 1
- Supporting a pupil with SEMH needs both in and outside the classroom
- Assisting with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and classroom engagement
- Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement support strategies
- Creating a positive, consistent, and nurturing learning environment
The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience supporting children with SEMH, behavioural needs, or challenging behaviour
- Confident working with Key Stage 1 pupils
- Calm, patient, and proactive approach
- Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
- Able to work independently and use initiative when required
- Passionate about supporting children with additional needs to achieve their potential
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, or Learning Support Assistant
- TeamTeach or Positive Handling training is beneficial but not essential
- Experience within a primary school or SEN setting preferred
