Outdoor Learning Tutor | SEN | Waltham-Forest

A supportive and inclusive primary school in Waltham Forest is seeking an experienced SEN Tutor to work with a Key Stage 2 pupil with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and behavioural needs through a tailored outdoor learning approach.

This is a unique and rewarding opportunity for a creative and resilient practitioner with experience delivering outdoor education, Forest School-style learning, or therapeutic interventions within a school setting.

The Role

  • Providing tailored 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with SEMH and behavioural difficulties
  • Delivering engaging outdoor learning sessions and therapeutic educational activities
  • Supporting emotional regulation, engagement, confidence, and social development
  • Building positive routines and relationships to encourage learning and participation
  • Working closely with the SENCO, pastoral team, and school staff to implement support strategies
  • Adapting learning approaches to meet the child’s individual needs and interests

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience working with children with SEMH, behavioural needs, or additional needs
  • Experience delivering outdoor learning, Forest School activities, or alternative provision
  • Calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour support
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Creative, proactive, and able to engage reluctant learners
  • Able to work independently and use initiative within a school environment

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

  • Forest School qualification or experience delivering outdoor education
  • Experience as an SEN Tutor, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, or SEN Teaching Assistant
  • TeamTeach, Positive Handling, or trauma-informed training advantageous
  • Understanding of therapeutic and child-centred approaches to learning
